Why Is My Hair Falling Out?

Hair loss is a sensitive subject for both men and women. As you age, it may seem like you are losing hair faster than usual. And, at times, your personal life and circumstances may accelerate this loss.

There are many ways to reduce hair loss, including lifestyle changes, at-home treatments, and surgery. Understanding why you are losing hair is critical to selecting the right approach for reducing hair loss and regrowing your hair—without uncomfortable plugs or surgeries.

What Are Common Causes of Hair Loss?

Many people who experience thinning hair, male-pattern baldness, or female-pattern baldness have one or more of these conditions.

Androgenetic Alopecia

This refers to both male and female-pattern baldness, and, unfortunately, it is a genetic condition. Androgenetic alopecia is one of the most common causes of hair loss—although it expresses itself differently in men versus women. While men tend to lose hair from the temples or crown, women experience overall thinning of hair and the widening of their part.

Hormones may affect the onset of alopecia, as it happens to some women following menopause.

Pregnancy

The hormonal shifts during pregnancy can trigger hair loss or thinning hair just as the changes post-delivery. In addition to hormonal concerns, the rigors of pregnancy or the sudden stress of being a new mother may also cause hair loss.

Getting adequate rest may help mitigate the loss.

Medications

Certain prescription medications, including blood thinners, acne medications, and some antidepressants, come with side effects of hair loss. Drugs used to lower cholesterol, and some kinds of birth control pills can also contribute to this.

If you notice that you are starting to lose your hair (or your hair seems to be thinning) after taking a new medication, talk to your doctor about switching the brand or reducing the dosage.

Nutritional Deficiencies

Eating a poorly balanced diet can cause hair loss, so make sure that you are taking in plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and protein while limiting your sugar. It can be difficult for people who are vegetarian or vegan to get enough protein, so be aware of your healthy alternatives and supplement your diet with a multivitamin.

Specific nutritional deficiencies, such as low iron, can contribute to hair loss.

Stress

When you experience stress in your life, it can manifest itself in your body—and your hair. Practicing daily meditation, doing yoga, or talking to someone may help calm your mind and reduce stress-related hair loss.

How Can I Treat My Hair Loss?

Treating hair loss can come in various ways, such as changing your birth control or medications, eating a better diet, exercising more, avoiding tight hairstyles, and de-stressing.

At Sand Institute, we offer an array of treatments to address your hair loss problem and customize the treatment to your specific needs, such as mesotherapy with vitamins, antioxidants, vasodilators, 5 alpha reductase enzymes blocker, growth factors, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and peptide therapy for hair loss.

We also have multiple hair treatment systems for in office or at home treatment like

AQ Advanced Hair Complex+ that works to promote hair growth and improve scalp conditions by increasing the circulation of the proteins found in your healthy hair follicles.

AnteAGE® Hair Microneedling uses traditional microneedling techniques to revitalize and stimulate the hair follicles. Through the microneedling wounds, this system introduces a powerful mixture of natural stimulants that are shown to promote hair growth.
