Benjamin Franklin once wrote that nothing can be certain in life, except death and taxes. Well in our contemporary state there may be one additional caveat to this old adage: nothing is certain but death, taxes, and the eventual desire to lose weight. The World Health Organization has thrown two of these into the headlines by recommending that governments implement a tax on all sodas and sugary beverages in an attempt to discourage people from purchasing these drinks, which is intended to help encourage healthier dietary habits and weight loss.

According to the CDC, insufficient sleep is a public health epidemic in the United States. These might seem like some pretty strong words for what most of us would consider an unhealthy habit, but the CDC has a point—and a lot of research to back up their perspective.

There are a lot of people who look at obesity as simply an aesthetic issue. Under this mindset, the desire to lose weight is a desire to fit into a smaller pair of pants, or to look better in a dress. The concept of body shaming comes out of this idea, that it is disrespectful and prejudiced to think less of someone who is overweight, or to assume that an overweight or obese person has to lose weight to feel better about themselves.

It affects the way that you carry yourself, how you view your body, the types of clothing that you wear, and your daily dieting and exercise habits.
